Ferro Titanium
Ferro Titanium (FeTi) is a critical master alloy used to enhance the properties of steel and stainless steel. By combining iron and titanium, this alloy serves as a powerful deoxidizer and stabilizer, ensuring that the final metal products meet the highest standards of strength, corrosion resistance, and durability. It is also used for control of carbon and nitrogen content in finished steel.
At SMS Metals Pvt. Ltd., we provide premium-grade Ferro Titanium tailored for high-precision industrial applications, ranging from aerospace engineering to automotive manufacturing.
Titanium has a lower density (approx. 4.5 gms/cc) than steel and burns in normal air at temperature lower than its melting point. Thus, use of Titanium metal yields poor recoveries in steel.
FeTi has a density higher than elemental Titanium. In alloy form the tendency of Titanium to burn in normal air is also inhibited. Additionally, FeTi70 has a melting point of 1100 ~ 1150 C which results in rapid dissolution of the alloy once it added to molten steel. Use of our Ferro Titanium results in higher and consistent yield of Titanium in the melt.
FeTi is manufactured using high grade Titanium scrap thus ensuring that no tramp elements are present in the final product.
Advantages of using Ferro Titanium are:
- Higher density than pure Titanium, approx. 5.0 ~ 5.5 gms/cc.
- Low melting point resulting in rapid dissolution of alloy in steel.
- Lower melting loss and higher Titanium recovery in the melt.
- Consistent quality resulting in fewer process problems.
